Day 3 September 7 – Warsaw

Today, you’ll walk the streets of Warsaw, home to the sorrow and resilience of the Polish people. Begin your day in Royal Baths Park, home to the Chopin Monument. Continue to Holy Cross Church, where the heart of Chopin rests. Walk a portion of Prozna Street, the last remnant of the Nazi Warsaw Ghetto. Stop at Maly Powstaniec (The Little Insurgent), a statue dedicated to the children who fought in the Warsaw uprising of 1944. Reflect at the Umschlagplatz, where a monument stands to remind people that this was the place where Jews from the ghetto were herded into rail cars to be transported to the Treblinka Extermination Camp. Spend time at the Polin Museum, highlighting the history of the Jewish community in Poland. Return to the hotel for dinner and your overnight stay in Warsaw.

Day 4 September 8 – Auschwitz & Divine Mercy

This morning, you’ll depart Warsaw. Walk the grounds of Auschwitz, the largest of the Nazi concentration camps, established in German-occupied Poland. It is estimated that close to 1.1 million people were killed here, about 90 percent of whom were from almost every country in Europe. Visit the Martyrdom Museum and then drive to the Divine Mercy Sanctuary and enjoy a talk given by one of the nuns about St. Faustina. Visit the new center, “Have no Fear,” where you may pray by the relic of Saint Pope John Paul II. Then, travel through the Polish countryside to Krakow, where you will check into your hotel for dinner and your overnight stay in Krakow.

Day 5 September 9 – Krakow

Begin your day with a walk down a portion of the Royal Way to Wawel Castle. Once home to the rulers of Poland, the castle was also the bastion of Christianity. Pope John Paul II said his first Mass in the Crypt here and would later serve as the Archbishop of Krakow. From here, we will explore the Kazimierz (Jewish Quarter) for traces of their history. Enjoy the Market Square, with the Cloth Hall providing opportunities to purchase Polish folk art and jewelry. Visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine and descend via the stairway into the depths of the earth to see the wonders left behind by the miners, including chapels and chandeliers made from salt and the famous Blessed Kinga Chapel. This afternoon, you’ll visit Oskar Schindler’s factory and museum. Return to your hotel for dinner and your overnight stay in Krakow.

Day 6 September 10 –Riese Bunkers, Ksiaz Castle & Gliwitz Radio Tower

Today, you will leave Krakow behind as you travel to Ksiaz Castle and learn about its role in the Riese Bunkers. Nazis confiscated property and used concentration camp labor to work toward a headquarters and military facility here. See the Gleiwitz radio tower and learn about its place at the beginning of World War II. Finish your day in Prague, where you will check into your hotel for dinner and your overnight stay in Prague.

Day 7 September 11 – Prague

Today, enjoy a city tour of Prague. Explore one of the largest castles in the world, Prague Castle, and St. Vitus Cathedral. Walk the streets of the Stare Misto (Old Town) with its Astronomical Clock. Visit Wenceslas Square, named for the patron saint of Bohemia.
