Day 1 Day 1 - Depart for Croatia

Depart for Croatia

Day 2 Day 2 - Arrive in Zagreb

Arrive in Zagreb and transfer to the hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure. (D)

Day 3 Day 3 - Zagreb

Begin the day in Kaptol Square in Upper Town, dominated by the monumental Zagreb Cathedral, with its soaring twin spires. Then, head into Zagreb's medieval Upper Town with its cobblestone streets and red-tile-roofed buildings. Walk along Kravi Most, to St. Mark's Church with its brightly colored roof and the 17th century Jesuit Church of St. Catherine. After a stop at the Parliament building, enjoy free time to explore. Day 4 Day 4 - Transfer to Medjugorje

Depart Zagreb for the Marian Shrine of Marija Bistrica and celebrate Mass there. Continue to Medjugorje. Check in at the hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

Day 5 Day 5 - Medjugorje

Your guide will arrange a meeting with one of the visionaries (subject to their schedule) to experience first-hand their unique experiences with Our Lady. Later, we will see from a distance and then climb Krizevac Mountain where in 1933, the villagers built a 30-foot cross on the anniversary of Jesus’ Crucifixion. Lining the path up the hill are wooden crosses and bronze images representing the Stations of the Cross. (B, D)

Day 6 Day 6 - Medjugorje

The next two days are yours to explore, pray and meditate. You may will climb The Apparition Hill where the visionaries first encountered our Lady in 1981. (B, D)

Day 7 Day 7 - Medjugorje

You may touch and pray before the Cross commemorating the spot where Mary first appeared to the visionaries. Mass at St. James Church. (B, D)

Day 8 Day 8 - Dubrovnik

Following breakfast, travel to Dubrovnik and enjoy a walking tour of the Old City. It will begin at St. Blasius Church, which is dedicated to the Patron Saint of Dubrovnik. This Baroque styled church was constructed by Venetian architect, Marino Gropelli in 1715; it was styled after the Venetian Church, St. Mauritius. You will know that you have reached this masterpiece by its large staircase leading to the ornamented main portal and the large dome that decorates the roof. Continue to the Gothic and Renaissance styled Rector's Palace, home to the History Department of the Museum of Dubrovnik. Next, you will stroll by the iconic Bell Tower Clock and Orlando's Column. To the left of this column, you will see the Sponza Palace. In the sixteenth century, members of the Academia dei Concordi met on the palace's first floor hall to discuss literature. As a result, the palace is the most important cultural institution of Dubrovnik. Lastly, you will visit the Dominican and Franciscan Monasteries. The location of the Dominican Monastery is strategically placed at the most sensitive point of Dubrovnik's defense barriers. While at the Franciscan Monastery, you will have the opportunity to visit the Pharmacy, the founding of which was collaborative, as it served both as the public pharmacy and for the needs of the monks. This afternoon, you will enjoy lunch on your own at one of the many small, family-owned restaurants along the narrow streets. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner and an overnight in Dubrovnik. (B, D)

Day 9 Day 9 - Dubrovnik - Veprice - Sinj - Split

Following breakfast, you will depart for Split. Along the way, you will stop at the Little Lourdes Shrine in Veprice. The Shrine was founded in 1908, and is situated in a natural cave surrounded by hills, just as the Grotto of Massabielle is in Lourdes. Your group will take an additional break in Makarska, before continuing to Sinj. While here, you will visit one of Croatia’s oldest spiritual centers, the Shrine of Our Lady of Sinj; it is home to the eighteenth-century miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. In 1715, the people of Cetina and the Franciscan monks prayed before a picture of the Mother of Grace during a Turkish attack. However, through much prayer to Our Lady, the Turkish army inexplicably fled after three hours, and since then, it has been a miraculous site for many Pilgrims. Lastly, your journey will culminate upon arrival in Split where you will eat dinner and enjoy an overnight in Split. (B, D)

Day 10 Day 10 - Split

Today, you will enjoy a city tour of Split, the second largest city in Croatia. The historic inner city of Split was built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. While exploring, you will have the opportunity to see remnants of Split’s Roman heritage such as, Jupiter’s Temple, the Peristyle of Diocletian’s Palace and the Cathedral of St. Domnius. The Temple of Jupiter was built around the third century and is dedicated to the highest Roman god, the god of the sky, and the god of thunder. The Diocletian’s Palace had two purposes; half was used for the Diocletian’s personal use, and the other half was used as a military garrison. Lastly, you will visit the Cathedral of St. Dominus that is encircled by twenty-four columns. The oldest monuments in this Holy place are those depicting the life of Christ, which can be found on the entrance doors of the Church. This evening, you will enjoy dinner at a local Konoba (restaurant in the coastal area of Croatia). Following dinner, you will continue to your hotel where you will have a restful overnight. (B, D)

Day 11 Day 11 - Return Home

After an early breakfast and heartfelt farewells, you will transfer to the Split airport for return flights home.

Day 11 – Fly from Split to Rome
Transfer to Split to fly to Rome. Your guide in Rome will greet you at the airport and escort you into the city for a driving tour to help you acclimate to where things are. Check into your hotel for dinner and overnight. (D)

Day 12 - Vatican
Enjoy a guided tour of the Vatican’s Museums and Sistine Chapel.  Built by connecting portions of the old papal residence with newer structures, the museum houses a world-renowned collection of art and antiquities. Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel between 1508 and 1512 and later painted The Last Judgment between 1535 and 1541 for Popes Clement VII and Paul III. The primary function of the chapel is the Papal Conclave, providing the place where the College of Cardinals of the church gathers to elect a new pope. Then, walk through St. Peter’s Basilica and celebrate Mass here. The present structure completed in 1590 was built over the Byzantine and Middle Ages structures that marked the tomb of Saint Peter. There are more than 100 tombs within the basilica, including most recently Saint John Paul II. Finish the day at the Pantheon, built by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus (27 BC to 14 AD).  Emperor Hadrian rebuilt it around 126 AD. The building was given to Pope Boniface IV who converted it into a church - Saint Mary and the Martyrs (Santa Maria Rotunda). Mass continues to be celebrated here. Dinner is on your own tonight. (B)

Day 13 – Rome
Begin your afternoon with a visit to the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran. Six popes are entombed here. Next door is the Holy Staircase (Scala Santa), brought from Pilate’s Palace in Jerusalem by Saint Helena in the 4th century. Climbing the stairs on your knees is a devotion that many pilgrims perform, and a plenary indulgence is granted for completing this feat. Next, is the Basilica of Saint Lawrence Outside the Walls (San Lorenzo). Saint Lawrence was one of the first seven deacons of Rome, martyred in 258. The church is built next to catacombs that lead down to his grave. The relics of Saints Justin Martyr and Stephen are also enshrined here. Continue your pilgrim journey to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major (Maria Maggiore). This is the largest Marian church in Rome. Its construction began after the Council of Ephesus in 431 proclaimed that Mary was the Mother of God. Saint Jerome, translator of the Bible into the Latin Vulgate, is buried here. Celebrate Mass in one of the churches here. Dinner is on your own tonight.   (B) 

Day 14 – Pilgrimage in Rome
This morning, you will begin your day at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. The present structure stands over the place where Constantine built the first church over Saint Paul’s grave. The church features a portrait of every pope who has served the church, with the face of Pope Francis I illuminated as the present pontiff. Step beneath the surface into the Catacombs of Callixtus, built along the Appian Way. Here, sixteen popes from the 2nd through 4th centuries were interred, though they have been removed to various churches over the centuries. San Sebastian Outside the Walls is another of the seven Pilgrimage churches, built over the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian. The remains of Peter and Paul were temporarily protected here during the Valerian Persecution of 258. Our seventh and final pilgrimage stop is the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. Saint Helena brought Passion relics here, and the floor was covered with soil from Jerusalem. Relics here include the index finger of Thomas that touched the wounds of Christ after His resurrection and a piece of the Good Thief’s Cross. Those who want to complete the seven-church pilgrimage as declared by Saint John Paul II in 2000 can continue to one more stop at the Shrine of Our Lady of Divine Love. Here, a pilgrim pursued by dogs appealed to Our Lady and she intervened for his safety. Pilgrims began to frequent the site and a chapel was built here in 1745. Celebrate Mass in one of the churches. Dinner is on your own tonight. (B)
